At Pecan Hill Farm, we maintain a commercial flock of Suffolk and Katahdin ewes and rams. We produce lambs of each breed, as well as crosses of Suffolk and Katahdin.
Suffolk sheep grow rapidly and produce lean, heavily muscled carcasses. They are early maturing and prolific animals.
Katahdin sheep are hardy and adaptable animals that do not require sheering and display a high level of resistance to internal parasites like the barber pole worm. They are also known for good lambing rates and mothering ability.
Why crossbreds?
Suffolk by Katahdin and other crossbred sheep display "hybrid vigor" which is the superior size, growth rate, and fertility, of the crossbred animal compared with its purebred parents. Hybrid Vigor is why the mutt you adopted at the animal shelter never gets sick, but your purebred poodle requires a health insurance policy! Also, breeds are complementary to each other when one breed excels in certain traits the other breed does not and vice versa.
Pecan Hill Farm produces affordable animals that can be used for a variety of purposes, including freezer lamb, youth livestock projects, and breeding stock. Sheep also make environmentally-friendly lawn mowers!
For 2026, 30 ewes were exposed to the ram on October 1, 2025. Contact us for animal availability and pricing. Spring-born lambs are born in March and will ready to be sold by July. Animals are vaccinated twice for clostridium perfringens type C & D and tetanus.
We do not allow on-farm slaughter. Market lambs can be delivered for a fee to your farm or an abattoir for custom or federally-inspected slaughter.
